Trucking Course Outline

Classes being the first Monday of every month

Units required for program completion:

  • Basic Operation
  • Safe Operating Practices for Basic Operations
  • Advanced Operating Practices
  • Vehicle Systems and Reporting Malfunctions
  • Non-Vehicle Activities

(1) Basic Operation

Outcomes: Familiarize students with basic controls and maneuvers.

Core Abilities: Communication, Technology, Mathematics, Information, Solve, Safety, Professionalism, Imitate

Unit Competencies: Becoming familiar with systems, basic maneuvers, and technology on board trucks.

(2) Safe Operating Practices for Basic Operations

Outcomes: Being aware of your surroundings, being prepared for various situations on the road, always being one step ahead of the problem.

Core Abilities: Communication, Technology, Mathematics, Information, Complexity, Solve, Safety, Professionalism

Unit Competencies: Knowing what to do in a timely and safe period of time, to be able to prevent the accident that can be avoided.

(3) Advancing Operating Practices

Outcomes: Dealing with extreme, unusual, stressful times of driving

Core Abilities: Communication, Technology, Mathematics, Information, Solve, Safety, Professionalism

Unit Competencies: Knowing what to do in an emergency situation, reaction to stressful moments, keeping a cool head.

(4) Vehicle Systems and Reporting Malfunctions

Outcomes: Being able to maintain and troubleshoot malfunctions, accurately report problems noticed at routine inspections as well as during a trip.

Unit Competencies: Knowing how to troubleshoot systems, diagnose and report problems accurately.

(5) Non-Vehicle Activities

Outcomes: Learning about Securement, Documentation, Planning, Life on the Road, and Health Safety.

Core Abilities: Communication, Technology, Mathematics, Information, Complexity, Solve, Safety, Professionalism

Unit Competencies: Being able to plan, secure, and look at the overall picture for the days to come on the road.
